Understanding ADHD

his learning program is designed to introduce attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).ADHD is the most common behavioural disorder in people under the age of 18. Although the disorder is often first diagnosed in childhood it may continue over a person’s lifespan and cause serious issues in their academic personal and professional lives.This program describes the historical and current understanding of ADHD the characteristic signs and symptoms of the disease and how these signs and symptoms fit into the most recent diagnostic criteria used today. An overview of the prevalence risk factors and socioeconomic impact of ADHD is also provided and the pathophysiology of ADHD and of the brain areas thought to be involved are reviewed.
