A/Prof Mark Schifter is a University of Sydney graduate, completing his MDSc in 1997. He is a specialist in Oral Medicine at The Skin Hospital, Darlinghurst and a Senior Clinical Lecturer and supervisor of the Masters Training Program in Oral Medicine at the University of Sydney. Mark is also the Head of the Department for Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Special Care Dentistry and Staff Specialist in Oral Medicine at Westmead Hospital.
Dr Gary Smith opened his practice in 1988 following the completion of his post-graduate studies in the field of removable prosthodontics. In conjunction with other specialist practitioners he fabricates immediate dentures and implant retained appliances. He also fabricates labial veneer dentures and partial dentures, often using the rotational path design approach. Gary is committed to the profession of dentistry and has served on various committees of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Dental Association (ADAQ). He was elected to the council of the dental association in 2008 and was the 2017 President. He is the current President of the Queensland Branch of the Australian Prosthodontic Society, Gary is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Fellow of the Academy of Dentistry International and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Richard completed his Advanced Diploma of Dental Prosthetics in August 2002 in Sydney. His graduation coincided with his leaving the RAAF Dental Branch following a rewarding 26 career.
He then moved to Queensland with the intention of establishing a practice. An offer from Australian Volunteers to relocate to Kathmandu Nepal to work as a dental technology educator postponed the opening of a practice for a year. On returning to Brisbane he established a practice in Indooroopilly, relocating 6 years later to Jindalee.
Knowing that success as a dental prosthetist required a lot more than a qualification, he joined the then ADPAQ seeking mentorship and guidance. He soon found himself on the committee and organising CPD for members. Richard was a long-term member of ADPAQ and served as an ADPA Ltd national director.
A principle guiding his practice is, " that if all you do in the field of dentistry is provide denture care, you need to be very good at what you do". With this in mind, Richard undertook training and sought mentorship from his peers to constantly improve his knowledge and skills. Courses included BPS, Gerber, Lingualized Occlusion, Candulor, CQR and Abe's suction denture technique.
Having now sold his practice and moved into semi-retirement, Richard now endeavours to motivate and educate the next generation of dental prosthetists, working part-time as a Clinical Supervisor in the Bachelor of Dental Prosthetics program run out of Southbank TAFE, QLD.
