There is a unique opportunity to work in a friendly AGPAL accredited teaching practice which will support you during your employment. Your amiable nature will be embraced and valued by the close-knit family like community at Casterton and Coleraine. You will be expected to work across two clinics in neighbouring towns (approximately 30 km apart) on a roster basis. There is a huge variety in the type of cases you will be exposed to, and doctors are encouraged to build up a relationship with a patient to achieve best patient outcomes.
This clinic has a great system in place which cares for your growth through mentoring. Radiation course and Emergency skills training can also be arranged if required. You will also be encouraged and supported to pursue areas of procedural interest whilst working in the clinic. To assist you further there is an option to attend dedicated training sessions each week and be able to ‘sit in’ on cases that you have not encountered previously. A fellowed doctor currently mentors 2 registrars in practice and is looking forward to growing the team. Accommodation and relocation assistance can also be arranged.

This teaching practice hosts registrars and also comprises of two regional hospitals, three residential care facilities and two nursing homes. A fully procedural clinic, you will have access to 2 modern treatment rooms to provide suturing, excisions, plastering, vaccines, x-rays, pathology, rehydration’s, IV’s, etc.
Practice hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, you will be conducting 9 sessions over 5 days. You will participate in an on-call 1 in 4 weekends/nights and after-hours roster with the other practitioners which will be 1 night / week and 1 weekend / month. You will also hold VMO rights and conduct ward rounds.
As with most rural GP practices, the patient health issues are wide ranging and offer an interesting and varied case load. Drug and alcohol, aged care, child and maternity related issues together with chronic disease management are the main issues impacting on the practice. A diabetes educator, dietician and a social worker visit the clinic and most specialist and allied health services are available through the Western District Health Service and Casterton Memorial Hospital. Visiting specialists and physicians are also accessible from the local hospitals.
