The town of Katherine is the thriving main town within this sub-tropical region, situated a three hour drive south of Darwin. The main town is situated on the banks of the Katherine river and has a population of around 10,000 people while the larger Katherine region has a population of just over 24,000. Katherine is well equipped as a regional town with a shopping centre that features a supermarket and many speciality shops. Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering primary and clinical health care services to the Aboriginal people in Katherine and surrounding communities. Wurli prides itself on delivering a range of health services to the community in a style and manner that makes clients feel welcome and comfortable. Wurli operates a range of clinics and provides a range of primary health care and other services which include main clinic (acute and general care), Gudbinji Chronic Disease Clinic, Binjari Health Centre, Women and Children's Health and Men's Health.The Role
Wurli is introducing a new and exciting Community Service Program, the Katherine Individual Support Program (KISP). This program will provide an overarching collaborative case management approach with other key Katherine agencies to address the needs of people who struggle to achieve quality of life due to the impact of chronic ill health, addiction, social and emotional, and homelessness.
The role of the Occupational Therapist within this new program is to provide a strong evidence based framework that empowers individuals, currently experiencing injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction, while living rough in the Katherine town. The Occupational Therapist will be required to work in partnership with the other team support workers to develop and implement care plans that assist KISP individuals in recovery and promote maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to individual’s physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
The Katherine Individual Support Program offers a range of employment opportunities for individuals with varying level of support worker experience and who are passionate about improving the wellbeing outcomes for indigenous communities.

Bachelor Degree of Occupational Therapy Minimum of two years’ experience in addressing the social determinants of health with a particular focus on dual diagnosis and disability.
