Tumut Family Medical Centre is seeking a VR/VMO GP (FRACGP, FACRRM) to join our team. Our practice is fully computerised and accredited, we use Best Practice Software and has visiting specialist and nursing support (Women's Health and immunisation accredited). Many training GP's have also spent time with us. We have the only Obstetrician in the local area.
Tumut Hospital has had a long affiliation with the University of New South Wales with medical students visiting often. It is a 34 bed peer grouped D1a community hospital with surgery, of which four beds are day surgery and four are bassinets. It provides emergency, medical, surgical and maternity services for the surrounding communities. A full range of community health services including community nursing, allied health and mental health services are also delivered by the local team and is supported by an ambulance service.
The closest regional airport is in Wagga Wagga which is just over an hour's drive from Tumut and offers daily flights to Sydney and Melbourne. Canberra and Albury are an easy 2 hour drive.
Tumut is situated at the base of the Snowy Mountains with the nearest ski fields only 1 & 1/2 hour's drive away and just a short drive is Blowering Dam, a summer wonderland for water skiers, campers, fishermen and year round photographers. The Hume & Hovell walking track bypasses through our immediate local area provding some great hiking trails. The town is not short of sports and activities to do with netball, soccer, archery, swimming (in our Olympic sized pool), tennis, scouts, golf, lawn bowls, dancing, cricket, trail riding and cycling/mountain biking just to name a few, as well as having 3 gymnasiums. The towns population is approx. 6250 with the shire being 15,000.
Tumut has 3 primary schools, 2 high schools, a TAFE campus and numerous day care centres and preschools.
Places of worship include, but are not limited to, Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian and Uniting Churches. The closest mosque is in Wagga Wagga.
Tumut is part of a region that's a year-round playground. Annual events includes the Festival of the Falling Leaf in April during which time the town also hosts the Rock the Turf Music Festival and the Tumut Rodeo. Lanterns on the Lagoon and Sculptures in the Park is a festival celebrating community, environment and takes place in September.
