A permanent part-time position for 24 hours per week is available for a suitably qualified person to work as an Allied Health Assistant in the Swan Hill District Health Physiotherapy Department.
The Allied Health Assistant works with trained physiotherapy and exercise physiology professionals in the provision of treatment, rehabilitation and maintenance therapy for hospital inpatients, outpatients and Aged Care Cosumers.
Maintains a clean and tidy department, including routine/necessary linen changes and the cleaning of departmental and loan equipment as per infection control procedures
Assists with stock ordering, including assuming responsibility for regular checking of stores and alerting chief physiotherapist of need to re-order stock
Participates in departmental meetings, quality improvement activities and professional development activities
Assists with data collection as required including completion of daily statistic sheets.
Completes relevant paper work associated with client management, appointments and any follow up that may be required.
Completes filing, collection of medical records, and computer entry of statistics and other relevant information
Assists with patient assessment and treatment under the direction and supervision of qualified Physiotherapists and/or Exercise Physiologists.
Provides exercise and mobility maintenance sessions, as prescribed by physiotherapist, to consumers of Aged Care, ward clients and community clients. Assists in set up of equipment or supplies that may be required for treatment sessions for physiotherapist intervention.
Assists in group programs and facilitation of exercise as required
Observes and reports changes in-patient's condition to the treating Therapist and appropriately documents all interventions and changes in the patient's medical record.
Assist in the supervision of hydrotherapy clients when required.
Assists the exercise physiologist with group or individual sessions or follow up as required.
Involvement with the Transition Care Program group activities when needed with gross motor and ADL interventions.
Follow up or assistance of the OT department may be required at times with approval from Physiotherapy Manager and direction of interventions would be provided by the OT Manager.
Current Endorsed Nursing Qualification, Allied Health Assistant Certificate or equivalent
1st Aid Certificate
Demonstrated ability in understanding and practice of physiotherapy services
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to work well within a multi-disciplinary team and develop strong client rapport Desirable:
To be able to take direction and instruction from various staff members and to show initiative in undertaking duties when required
Experience in manual handling of patients / clients and other physiotherapy techniques
Understanding of the public hospital system and quality improvement
Sound computer skills including experience with word, excel, publisher and PowerPoint software.
