An exciting opportunity is available for a speech pathologist to join the team at Ryde hospital. This temporary full time speech pathology position will provide a service to the adult acute inpatients at Ryde Hospital and adult community outpatients through home visits and site based appointments.

On the acute wards at Ryde Hospital & within the Community Aged Care & Rehab team (CAReS) at Ryde.


The North Shore Ryde Health Service (NSRHS) Speech Pathology Department is located within the Division of Allied Health & Community Services and reports operationally through the Divisional Director. The department provides speech pathology services across the North Shore & Ryde area with this position providing cover around the acute and community sectors of the speech pathology service at Ryde hospital.

What you'll be doing

The main purpose of this position is to provide accurate assessment, intervention and therapy for the acute inpatients and community outpatients with swallowing and communication disorders at Ryde Hospital. This position provides 50% cover on the acute inpatient wards, with the remain time allocated for intervention of the community outpatient caseload through a varied of modalities including home visits.


Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Bachelor or post graduate degree in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
  • Demonstrated competency in the assessment and management of adult dysphagia and communication disorders across a variety of settings, in particular acute and community outpatients.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge with the principles of LSVT & the development of Augmentative Communication Aids (AAC).
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated computer literacy and ability to use health information systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workload demands, meet deadlines and complete activities (including ability to work within scope of practice and seek assistance when required).
  • Commitment to participation in professional development and quality improvement activities.
  • Proven ability to work independently and to establish effectively collaboratively working relationships within a multi-disciplinary team and interagency networks
