The Opportunity

Work with the world leading CliniKids Autism Research at Telethon Kids Institute, led by Professor Andrew Whitehouse, and be part of a specialised model of care that allows for the translation of cutting-edge research into innovative and individualised practices. 

  • Be part of the prompt translation of new intervention-research findings into practice and be instrumental in closing the gap between research and the delivery of truly evidence-based therapies. 
  • Soak up the opportunity to focus your clinical skills and develop specialised knowledge of autism.  
  • Work with a team of researchers, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Psychologists where everyone’s career matters and everyone has variety in their workday – where all staff get the opportunity to learn a researched specific therapy approach.
  • Refine your skills and become a trainer or facilitator of workshops to ensure we are instrumental in making the research come to life and spread the word of best practice as widely as possible.  
  • Be supported by streamlined processes, swift intuitive systems and reduced administration tasks that remove the burden of non-therapy related tasks.  
  • Work from modern purpose built and extremely well-resourced clinic rooms as well as in the family home, school or community when required. 
  • Work within a small team of value driven, highly trained and passionate colleagues, sharing the accomplishment of achieving measurable outcomes for children

The Role
The successful applicant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Speech Pathologist who wants to make a real difference in the lives of children through an integrated clinical/research setting. 

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  •  Provide evidence-based interventions in a clinic and community setting
  • Share your knowledge and skills with the therapy team to ensure individualised outcomes driven therapies for young children
  • Participate in clinical supervision and peer sessions
  • Keep professional records on an easy to navigate records system
  •  Keep up to date with current autism research related to diagnosis and intervention.

There are several opportunities with flexible work arrangements, part time or full time contracts, for 24 months, with the likelihood of extension.  

About You
This position would suit someone who possesses highly developed interpersonal and relationship building skills; has an enquiring dynamic approach to therapy and is inspired by new challenges. 

The key to your success will be your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Specific clinical experience and passion for working with young children with autism or developmental delay, and a sound knowledge of autism and its impact  
  • An understanding of evidenced based interventions in autism 
  • A strong work ethic with a flexible, collaborative team approach and proven success in engaging teams and families in therapy 
  • Demonstrated innovation and passion for ongoing professional development 

 You will need to have: 

  • Qualifications in Speech Pathology and a ‘practicing member of Speech pathology Australia (SPA)  
  • Eligible for a Medicare provider number and as a provider for NDIA 
  • COVID vaccination 
  • A valid driver’s license
