This session describes the purpose, value and clinical methodology of tooth isolation using the dental dam.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Explain why tooth isolation is required for root canal treatment
  • List special considerations concerning tooth isolation
  • Describe dental dam placement techniques

Clamps are available in different shapes and designs to cater for the isolation of different teeth, as well as clinician preference.

Dr Giampiero Rossi-Fedele,
Associate Professor

Giampiero qualified as a dentist in 1996 from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in Italy. He obtained his MClinDent in Endodontology from UCL/Eastman Dental Institute in 2005 and his PhD From PUCRs in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 2013.

Giampiero has been dedicated to clinical practice, together with post-graduate education at UCL/Eastman Dental Institute and Warwick Dentistry. He is currently Associate Professor in Endodontics at The University of Adelaide, South Australia.

Esma Dogramaci,
Specialist Orthodontist

Esma is a specialist orthodontist and an honorary lecturer of the Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
