Audit As A Tool For Quality Dentistry course for Dental Practice
This session will firstly describe why we use audit in dentistry, its benefits and challenges. It will then outline the basic audit cycle and provide some detail on the different steps involved in the process. Finally, you will discover how the flexible application of audit can give you a powerful tool for improving patient care or practice performance.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the audit process
- Describe how to conduct an audit
- Explain how the audit process may be used to improve patient care
The session will mainly concentrate on the use of 'audit for change'. If you wish to aim for high standards of patient care, audit will not only help you achieve them but also give you data to prove it.
And do not forget the satisfaction of knowing you have done a great job. Audit can be the key to improving practice and a greater sense of professional well-being.
Andrew qualified as a dentist from Bristol University in 1980, followed by a Masters degree in Clinical Education from Nottingham University in 1999.
In 1984 he opened his first purpose-built practice at Gorse Covert, Loughborough. The practice embraced the concepts of total quality management and became one of the first four in the UK to become ISO 9002 accredited in 1992. Since then Andrew has become well known for his work promoting the value of Clinical Governance and Audit. This has involved national and international programmes with hundreds of dentists and DCPs every year, from small study clubs to FD schemes and Masters level students.
As Chief Executive Officer of The Dental Business Academy, Andrew has extended this work to include a comprehensive quality management support service to help practices improve their standards of patient care.
