This session will look at how to improve the fit and function of conventional bridges.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • assess the quality of fit of a conventional bridge
  • assess and modify the bridge, including remounting of the restoration
  • select the appropriate luting agent and cement the restoration

This session will describe the reasons, and the technique, for trying in and cementation of a conventional bridge.

Gary is a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Barts and the London NHS Trust. He is also a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry Cleft Lip and Palate Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, Hon. Senior Clinical Lecturer, Queen Mary University of London and Training Programme Director Restorative Dentistry, Barts and the London.

After a house job at the London, Gary spent time in general practice before returning to hospital dentistry via the Eastman, London Central Middlesex and back to the London. He is a specialist in restorative prosthodontic and restorative dentistry and has taught undergraduate postgraduate and specialist registrars.

Ken Hemmings BDS MSc DRDRCS MRDRCS FDSRCS ILTM FHEA,
Consultant in Restorative Dentistry

Ken graduated with honours from Bristol University in 1982. He gained his London fellowship in 1986 before specialising in restorative dentistry.

He completed a Masters and Senior Registrar training at the Eastman Dental Hospital and became consultant in conservative dentistry and periodontology in 1995. He is recognised by the GDC as a specialist in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, periodontology and endodontics.

He now shares his time between hospital and private practice.
