Pharmacology for Acute Pain course for Medical Doctors
This session begins by considering the mechanisms of acute pain and how this can be managed pharmacologically. The differences between nociceptive and neuropathic pain are then covered. Finally the three main treatments for nociceptive pain are discussed.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Outline the mechanisms of acute pain
- Describe the pharmacological management of acute pain
- Differentiate between the nature and management of nociceptive and neuropathic pain
- State the mechanisms of action and dosages for paracetamol, NSAIDs and opioids and issues associated with their use
