Rural and Remote Nursing
Nurses working in rural and remote areas are often referred to as specialist generalists, indicating their role’s multifaceted nature and diverse contexts. They care for the 7 million people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, with a higher rate of chronic disease and a significantly lower life expectation compared to urban dwellers, exacerbated by the lack of access to healthcare. This unit of study will allow students to develop the advanced knowledge, skills and critical thinking required to work in this complex environment to provide quality care for the population. You will explore professional boundaries, personal security, and how-to health education and navigation of health resources.
