PHYSIOTHERAPY MATT HOPKINSON

Matt has extensive experience working across Orthopaedic and Sports Physiotherapy. Starting at the Alfred Hospital, he has worked both in Public and Private Healthcare facilities and Private Practices. He has also been a Physiotherapist for Hawthorn Football Club and Waverley (Melbourne) Reds Baseball Club and was lucky enough to be involved in Premierships during his time with them. He has also done research in conjunction with the AFL and AFLPA looking into the effect that a high level sporting career has life following retirement from sport.

Working closely alongside leading specialists means Matt is up to date on current techniques for the treatment of injuries, and can provide access to premium healthcare options.

Matt has a passion for rehabilitation, and enjoys taking patients through the process of Prehabilitation, Post op recovery, and then ongoing Strength and Conditioning training programs to maximise recovery. Matt also utilises trigger point needling as part of his treatment techniques.

He is a keen cyclist and football fanatic.

 

NICK BRIDGES

Nick has a double degree in Physiotherapy and Ergonomics through LaTrobe University. He has experience working in Hospitals, Private Practice as well as offering workplace advice. Nick has special interest in shoulder injuries as well as ergonomics. He hopes to build a new practice with local enterprise, performing worksite assessments, pre- employment medicals and assisting functional return to work.

Nick also currently works out at Tullamarine airport supplying Physiotherapy services to airport staff. Unfortunately he informs us that he cannot get us cheap airfares.

Nick is a Geelong boy and loves supporting his Cats, but we wont hold that against him. He also enjoys Surfing, Skiing and Drumming!

 

ALANA HASSELL

Alana completed her Bachelor of Physiotherapy at the University of South Australia and has since been working in Spinal and Sports physiotherapy positions in Adelaide. As a practitioner she has a strong interest in Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and strives to achieve quality results based on the individual needs and desires of her clients.

Alana has special interest in myofascial pain and dry needling and also functional strength and conditioning. Alana comes from a strong sporting background, and has experience treating elite level Volleyball and Football clubs.

 

BARB DENSON

After obtaining a degree in Applied Science Physiotherapy in 1984 through study at Lincoln Institute/ Melbourne University, Barb's physiotherapy career quickly evolved into the elite sporting arena with her first Australian Paralympics to Spain in 1992. Subsequent international events including World Championships and Paralympic Games revolved around mostly Track and Field, Swimming, and Basketball events as well as all other sports at the events on site within the International Medical / Physio clinics.

After graduating and initially working in major and private hospitals, Barb moved into the Private Practice sector and consulted with Melbourne's Major Sports Clinics and covered all aspects of team and individual sports /spinal assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and exercise tailored to individual needs. It also included work in her own Industrial Sports and Spinal clinic, TheState Ballet and the Australian Open Tennis event (WTA). In 1997 Barb moved overseas and worked in a Internationally acclaimed private clinic in Singapore for 10 years and the past 5 years travelled through Asia to events on the Professional Golf circuit. Working for PGA, European Tour, Asian Tour and One Asian Tour, Barb returned to Melbourne in 2013 and continues work with the International Golf Tours and Overseas Sporting events.

She is now proud to announce her commencement of work locally at the Glenferrie Sports and Spinal Clinic Barb remains active in running, swimming and keeping fit. A past National and State junior record holder in 400 M hurdles she has maintained an ongoing interest in all aspects of sports competition both for the social and the elite athlete .

 

 

SPORTS MEDICINE DR KAREN HOLZER

Dr Karen Holzer is an extremely experienced, accredited and well known Sports Physician based in Melbourne. She has worked extensively with athletes at all levels, from the occasional recreational athlete through to the elite international athlete.She receives great satisfaction helping each individual at whatever level they may be, achieve their own personal goals and aspirations. Karen is unique in that she has a PhD and post Doctorate in Exercise-induced Asthma and breathing difficulties. She is recognised world wide as a leading researcher and clinician in this area. She played a major role in the preparation and management of the Australian Olympic team for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, at which the air pollution and consequent airways complications were the major concern.

Karen has worked as a team doctor for a variety of sports at the Domestic, State, National and International levels including Commonwealth Games, World Championships, and Olympic Games, an accomplishment that very few Doctors have achieved. Unlike most Sports Physicians, Karen has a strong basis in treating both medical and musculoskeletal issues.

She has extensive experience in treating: Exercise-induced Breathing Issues Iron Deficiency Lethargy Recurrent infections Female issues – menstrual, weight, pregnancy, bone density Weight issues Tendinopathies Acute and overuse injuries Karen has special interests in the care, both medical and musculoskeletal, of: Endurance Athletes – open water swimmers, road cyclists, distance runners, triathletes, ironmen & women and rowers Swimmers Track and Field Athletes Track Cyclists All Ball Sports – Basketball, Football, Rugby, Soccer, Netball, Tennis & Hockey.

Furthermore, as an extension of Karen’s extensive work in cardiorespiratory performance in athletes, Karen has a special interest in altitude training and its impact on performance and VO2 max testing.

  DR TRACY PETERS

Tracy is a Melbourne trained Sports and Exercise Physician. She qualified in 1999 becoming a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians.

After completing her medical degree at Monash University, Tracy commenced surgical training. She gained experience in trauma and intensive care medicine whilst completing two years as a surgical registrar, the first year in general and then a year in orthopaedic surgery before joining the sports physician fellowship training program. 

Tracy’s sports medicine coverage has included extensive national and international rugby union team coverage, including being Chief Medical Officer and Team Doctor for the Melbourne Rebels Rugby Union team for their first three years in the Super Rugby Series, 2010-2013. She was also Team Doctor for the Hawthorn Football Club during the 2006 AFL season.

Tracy treats patients of all ages, levels of fitness and levels of physical skill. Her special interest areas are football (all codes), other contact sports and dance medicine. As well as injury treatment, injury prevention is an important part of her practice.

 

PODIATRY JADE DE GOEY

Originally completing a Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Exercise and Sports Science, Sports Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Jade went on to complete a Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Podiatric Practice at LaTrobe University. She is a Member of the Australian Podiatric Association and has special interest in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries including heel pain, ball of foot pain and ankle pain. Other special interests include treating children with growing pains and flat feet.

Outside of podiatry, Jade enjoys long distance running, group exercise classes, soccer, water skiing, snow skiing, surfing and traveling.

MASSAGE YVONNE POWELL

Yvonne has over 15 years of experience and training in relaxation, sports, deep tissue, remedial and therapeutic massage.  Yvonne is also competent with aromatherapy and cupping.

Yvonne believes that massage has a plethora of benefits and is not just a luxury, but an essential for health, fitness and life contentment.

PEKX NANAI

Pekx, a world champion powerlifter turned to massage after two accidents left him blind. Discovering the power of touch, he trained in massage and offers a unique massage experience.

ALAN GODFREY

Alan, an accomplished swimmer at Masters level,is trained in remedial massage and offers deep tissue and relaxation massage services, With a particular interest in swimming and endurance conditions  Alan is perfectly suited to the HALC suites.

Moving from her Kew rooms in early 2015, Reiona offers, relaxation, deep tissue therapeutic and pregnancy massage.
