Our Mission
CFS Discovery is solely dedicated to the management and treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). We constantly work to identify the possible predispositions and causes of CFS/ME, and to develop treatment strategies for effective symptom management. This occurs by continually reviewing our treatment strategies, following international research. There is affiliation with and active participation in Research Projects with a number of Australia's Universities. Whilst all with CFS/ME have in principle the same symptom expression, certainly differing in degrees of severity, the individual's history of events surrounding the onset of symptom expression is unique. In fact, no single cause has consistently been shown to be responsible for CFS/ME. Our work is also showing that many may have certain genetic factors which can be regarded as a predisposition to the illness. The identification of such factors has been clearly shown to influence the development of the symptoms of ME/CFS. As the pathways of diagnosis and treatment are rapidly becoming more defined, the various investigations undertaken at CFS Discovery are specifically targeted to reveal what is needed to be understood about each individual's circumstances. CFS/ME is a multisystem illness with symptoms including those of gastrointestinal, immunological and neurological origins. They are widespread and can be very limiting.


A Bit of Background
Dr DP Lewis has been involved in the care and management of patients with CFS/ME since 1985. His interest began when it became obvious that there was considerable community misunderstanding about this illness and very little knowledge available on how to manage it. In order to provide effective treatment for his patients, who now number in the thousands, Dr Lewis has established a medical practice that is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of this illness .The aim is to provide a place where people with CFS/ME will receive understanding and the most effective treatment. A vital component of this care is to make careful observations of both the patient's condition upon presentation and their subsequent progress. Cases are constantly being analysed by Dr Lewis to increase the understanding of this illness, to identify areas of concern and to develop treatment strategies which will build on the knowledge that has already been accumulated.
