Description:

The principal objective of this position is to provide psychological assessments, interventions and therapy to children aged 0 - 8 years and their families.

Using a family-centered and strengths-based approach, this position provides guidance, resources and supports utilising the existing strengths of each child and based on the family's needs and choices.

This position collaborates with our broader team of professionals and works within a transdisciplinary model to provide consultation to Speech Pathologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Early Childhood Educators and families to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to supporting children and their families through evidence based, quality therapeutic interventions.

Duties include (but are not limited to):
 

  • Apply person centered care principles to provide service and education in line with individual and family goals.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, identify goals and provide evidence-based interventions such as cognitive behaviour therapy and play therapy.
  • Develop educational and support sessions for children and parents.
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments such as cognitive, developmental, learning and behavioural difficulties and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Design effective support programs.
  • Facilitate referrals to external services as required.
  • Provide short-medium term counselling for clients and their families as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and review therapeutic interventions.
  • Provide timely follow up for clients, family members, carers, case managers and other service providers.
  • Collaborate with and provide secondary consultation.
  • Collaborate with the broader Early Childhood Intervention Team to provide group interventions.
  • Ensure service delivery is culturally appropriate and respectful of diverse communities.
  • Meet organisational funding targets in relation to service delivery criteria.
  • Ensure up to date records according to quality standards.
  • Supervise students and volunteers as required, or as appropriate.
  • Participate in identifying professional development and training needs and attend professional development activities.

Skills and Experiences:

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology
  • Current professional registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
  • Endorsed area of practice in Educational and Developmental Psychology and/or Clinical Psychology.
     

Essential Criteria:

  • You must hold a current driver's license and be willing to obtain an NDIS Worker Screening Check, NSW Working with Children's Check and VIC Working with Children's Check.
  • An interest for or experience in working to support children with a disability and their families as well as an understanding of complex needs.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of relevant formal and standardised assessments.
  • Experience and/or understanding of setting goals and implementing evidence-based therapy across a diverse range of disorders.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong rapport and relationships with clients, carers, staff and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of the team.
  • Effective written and communication skills, time management and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills.
  • High level of enthusiasm and positive attitude.
