Position Title: Principal Clinician (Speech Pathology)

Location: Hamilton

Position Status: Fulltime (Permanent)

Reports To: Senior Manager (Allied Health)

Description of the Job Role

The Principal Clinician (Speech Pathology) is responsible for delivering high-quality evidence-based assessment and interventions to a diverse NDIS caseload. The role will work with a diverse range of clients and play a crucial role in delivering exceptional therapeutic support to individuals with various communication challenges, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Mental Health challenges, and Trauma.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment and management of speech, language, voice, and swallowing difficulties in adults with diverse medical backgrounds within the community.
  • Advocating for Speech Pathology intervention to optimize function and maximize quality of life.
  • Working with clients, their families, and other staff members to ensure a patient-centred model of care.
  • Represent ClearSky and assigned clients at NDIS planning and associated meetings in matters associated with Speech Pathology.
  • Manage a caseload of clients who may present with behavioural complexity, multiple co-morbidities, and functional limitations across multiple areas of their life.
  • Prescription of communication devices and relevant assistive tech where required.
  • Writing assessment reports and progress reports.
  • Assisting people of all ages and disabilities in the community with a variety of speech, language, and communication skills.
  • Independently apply advanced reasoning skills to ensure outcomes are effective and match individual needs and clinical practice standards and utilize the principles of evidence- based practice to all service delivery.
  • Liaise and consult directly with other service providers to ensure achievement of positive client outcomes.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in relation to the company’s client and corporate data and information.
  • Maintain SPA Registration yearly through the completion of supervisions and assessments.
  • Attend supervisions with the Senior Manager (Allied Health) on a regular basis and report on status of all allocated participants and any developments, exceptions or changes to the participant’s needs and practices.
  • Attend clinical supervision provided in-house by the organisation or through an identified and vetted external supervisor.
  • Undertake administrative tasks necessary to perform the role including maintaining appropriate documentation and systems to safeguard the wellbeing of the individuals supported and the interests of ClearSky.
  • Perform all other duties as required.

  • Consistently meet billable hours targets in line with the role's measures of performance.
  • Proactively contribute to the identification and conversion of new client referrals to support the organisation's growth targets and staff measures of performance.
  • Attend community engagement activities that contribute to professional networking and organisational goals for industry representation.
  • Maintain the highest standards of customer care to maximise client retention rates in line with staff measures of performance.

 

Key Attributes

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and current registration.
  • Pre-existing SPA membership, or ability to apply for membership.
  • Possess experience working in Disability, Child Protection, or within a speech pathology framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact positively and constructively with participants, their families, service providers and representatives of government agencies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation, policy and practice in areas including disability care, forensic disability, child protection, aged care, and/or health care.
  • Demonstrated high-level computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office and the ability to alternate between different systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a fast-paced organisation while completing high-level reports in a timely manner.
  • A valid Australian driver’s license.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates or willingness to obtain.
  • Possession of or willingness to apply and qualify for a Queensland Government ‘Positive Notice for Child Related Employment’ (Blue Card).
  • Possession of or willingness to apply and qualify for a Queensland Government ‘Disability Services Positive Notice. (Yellow Card).
  • Possess a ‘Proof of Vaccination’ for COVID-19 in accordance with ClearSky policy.
