Speech Pathologists

Qualifications & experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree: A degree in speech pathology from an accredited university program.
- Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist (CPSP): Registration as a Certified Practicing member of Speech Pathology Australia.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Communication and Swallowing Evaluations: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify disorders in speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing.
- Needs Identification: Determine the level of impairment and the impact on the participant's daily life and participation in the community.
- Capacity Building: Assess the participant's potential for improvement and capacity building through therapeutic interventions.
- Therapy Planning and Implementation: Develop individualised therapy plans that address specific needs of participants, which could include techniques for improving clarity of speech, language development, and effective swallowing techniques.
- Skill Development: Employ a range of therapeutic strategies to enhance communication abilities, ensuring alignment with the participant’s goals as outlined in their NDIS plan.
- Technology and Aids: Recommend and train participants in the use of assistive technologies such as communication devices.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other health professionals such as occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and social workers to provide holistic care.
- Family and Carer Training: Provide training and support to family members and caregivers to facilitate effective communication strategies safely at home.
- Progress and Outcome Reporting: Document participants’ progress and outcomes to adjust therapy plans as necessary and report these findings to the NDIS.
- Goal Setting Documentation: Ensure all interventions are goal-oriented and documented thoroughly to support NDIS funding requests and reviews.
