However, members of the parliament also shared different views on the proposal. For instance, the Greens asked whether vape users should get a prescription first before accessing vapes. Others expressed concerns that the regulations may be too restrictive for those using vape to quit smoking. Some said that since vapes are targeting younger audiences, they need a new approach to their regulation. The existing proposal aims to prohibit cheap and disposal nicotine vapes as well as “non-therapeutic” variants from entering and being manufactured in Australia. This would also restrict vape selling, as they would be made available only through a prescription with limited flavours. This system would put vape regulations similar to laws applied to alcohol and cigarettes.
