New Minister Needs To Act Fast to Mend Aged Care Crisis

New Minister Needs To Act Fast to Mend Aged Care Crisis

Published By HealthcareLink , 4 years ago

The ANMF welcomed Senator Richard Colbeck into the very important role of Minister for Aged Care and Senior Australians and has suggested him to start doing something to fix the crisis in aged-care.

The main reforms for the under-resourced sector need to include:

  • Wages increase for nurses and care-workers;
  • Mandatory safe staffing skill mixes and levels;
  • Assured accountability and transparency of taxpayer funding provided to the aged care sector.

Senator Colbeck must focus on the feedback regarding understaffing working in aged care and needs to act as soon as possible to avoid future neglect and abuse in the said sector.

Ms. Annie Butler, ANMF Federal Secretary said the new Minister was now in a place over the term of government to better identify and use the nursing and midwifery resources to enhance health results for all Australians.

She also added that the nurses and midwives can offer quality care across Australia where essential health care services are not available at the moment, specifically in rural and remote areas of the country.
