52900WA Graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Medicine
The Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia (CPCA) is a registered not-for-profit body that was formed in 2014 by a group of doctors with a special interest in non-invasive cosmetic medicine. CPCA is currently affiliated with AACDS for the certificate, 52900WA Graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Medicine.
The Graduate Certificate in Cosmetic Medicine is the first Australian Accredited Qualification in Cosmetic Medicine. The course provides doctors with the knowledge and skills to successfully fulfill their role as cosmetic physicians, achieving best practice standards and meeting all requirements as stipulated by Ahpra. Lecture and assessment content focuses on the delivery and promotion of cosmetic services, scope of practice, patient communication and assessment, cosmetic dermatology, facial anatomy and in-depth knowledge and skills in cosmetic injectables. The course caters to both new and practicing cosmetic doctors.
Evidence of current APHRA registration as a medical doctor (or the equivalent for international students) plus a minimum of 2 years of postgraduate clinical experience. Please see the additional dedicated segment for international doctors below. Current and continued CPCA membership is required for the duration of the course. CPCA membership can be in any of the following categories:

GCMPCM01 - Analyse the principles of cosmetic medicine
This unit provides the underpinning knowledge to prepare the doctor for cosmetic practice as a cosmetic physician. There is a focus on multi-disciplinary practice examining the scope of practice for each cosmetic professional, including allied health workers who further support cosmetic patients. Lectures encompass the governance surrounding cosmetic practice with attention to appropriate marketing strategies, medical indemnity and the cosmetic physician’s role in a supervisory capacity. This unit is applied by medical doctors within a cosmetic medical context.
GCMRPA01 - Review patient consultation and assessment strategies
This unit covers the foundation skills to ensure thorough and effective consultation strategies are adopted in aesthetic practice. The lectures provide a step-by-step guide in assessment strategies as part of a holistic consultation including referral, informed consent, written and photo documentation and other information to support positive patient outcomes. Lectures also explore the various patient management systems currently used in aesthetics, and how they can tie together all aspects of patient assessment and consultation to ensure best practice.
This unit is divided into a theory and a practical component. The practical competencies are demonstrated and assessed at the Aspire Training Clinics as part of Unit GCMPAI01 Prepare for and administer cosmetic injectable medications.
GCMAPD01 - Apply principles of dermatology to cosmetic medicine
This unit evaluates the principles of dermatology for application to cosmetic practice. The lectures explore both cosmetic and dermatological skin conditions with a focus on developing a holistic treatment plan based on a multi-modality approach including dermal therapies and prescription topical and systemic medications. Doctors will gain a sound understanding of the cutaneous manifestation of systemic diseases, differential diagnosis of skin disorders, dispensing over the counter, prescription skin care, non-ionising cosmetic devices and epidermal resurfacing techniques
GCMPAI01 - Prepare for and administer cosmetic injectable medications

HLTINF005 - Maintain infection prevention for skin penetration treatments
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to maintain infection prevention during skin penetration treatments and to review clinic compliance with the applicable state or territory and local council requirements.
It requires the ability to identify, manage and control infection risks to clients, self and work colleagues.
This unit applies to individuals who make independent treatment decisions.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State/Territory legislation, Australian/New Zealand standards and industry codes of practice.
