Practice Information:
This Medical Centre is a private medical practice owned by the Girudala Community Co-Operative Society (www.girudala.com.au) which is a local indigenous community organization that also runs a housing co-operative and many health, family support and employment projects. The centre will run as a mixed fee for service and bulk billing practice with a focus on preventative health care and management of chronic illness. It has been operating from July 2010 and is open to the whole community. The Centre has 2 consulting rooms, a procedure room, staff room and 2 areas for visiting allied health specialists on the main street on Bowen. On staff are a 1 x Locum GP, 2 x Practice Nurses, 2 x Indigenous Health Worker, Practice Manager and a Receptionist.
Position Description:
 The General Practitioner role is to provide comprehensive medical care to individuals, families and communities (from initial consultation to follow up) on simple and complex health conditions.
 
As the sole practice, so it does get quite busy as you will be the only GP in the practice.  Please note that:

• You will not be required to be on call
• Your hours of work would be:  Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday: 8:00am – 5:00pm, closing for lunch hour 12:30 – 1:30pm. Thursday & Friday: 7:00am – 3:00pm, lunch hour: 12:00am – 1:00pm
• The practice uses Medical Director and Pracsoft 4.2 so experience with this software would be preferred.
• Doctor to be familiar or willing to learn and perform Health Checks (Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander, 4yro, 45-49 & 75+) and Care Plans GP to perform Cervical Smears, if this is not possible we would have to send our clinics to the Women’s Clinic at our local hospital.
• Nursing home visits (if required, usually booked during the day, the practice doesn't have patients at the moment)
• You may be required to complete a home visit for our regular patient if requested (home visits are at the Dr’s discretion)
• Locum GP’s will be picked up from the Proserpine-Whitsunday Airport

Qualifications & Experience:

• General registration would be required as we have no supervisor
• Experience with Medical Director and Pracsoft would be an advantage
• Being familiar with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Health Checks would also be an advantage as this practice focuses on Australian Indigenous Health

Salary Information:         
$1,500 per day
