Occupational Therapist
We are seeking an experienced, positive, and empathetic Occupational Therapist to join our expanding allied health team. You will have the opportunity to work alongside our multi-disciplinary allied health team in supporting clients who are affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Why Join us?
- Attractive remuneration package including salary packaging (we are a not-for-profit entity)
- Excellent learning and development opportunities: with fortnightly in-house PD, regular 1:1 mentoring, and shadowing/supervision opportunities.
- Highly flexible role: with the ability to work varied days and hours (including around school times).
- Awesome company culture: we are a very passionate, mission-driven organisation who are all very committed to supporting clients and their loved ones who have been affected by MND.
- Equipment provided: you will have access to one of our MND cars, a mobile phone, laptop, and any equipment you need to deliver therapies.
About The Role
Our allied health practitioners are based out of our Oxley office, but deliver therapies to clients within the community. This ensures that our clients are still able to access our services as their mobility and health declines. You will be required to travel in this role, however a vehicle is provided.
The role requires a high level of autonomy as you will be responsible for managing your own caseload with support and guidance from our Team Leader and our Occupational Therapy and wider allied health team. Whilst we work exclusively with MND clients, each client will present with a very unique set of symptoms and goals. This means that you will need to have strong problem-solving skills and take a functional approach to their management.
The role will see you:
- Conduct comprehensive and holistic assessments to develop a strong understanding of the client's goals, needs, and priorities. Assessments may include: ADL - functional Assessments, FCA's, home assessments (including home modifications and cognitive assessments
- Provide targeted, individualised, and best practice therapeutic interventions to clients in line with their own goals, preferences and needs.
- Assess for, trial and prescribe aids, appliances, and equipment to facilitate independence and/or safely support carers.
- Delivering education to clients, their support persons, and external stakeholders
- Liaising closely with all members of the client’s support team including other allied health professionals, public health services, doctors and specialists, support coordinators, and suppliers.
MND Queensland delivers services in line with evidence-led, best practice care which currently recommends a strong focus on a Multi-Disciplinary Team approach to care. It is expected that all team members are proactive in sharing information and working closely alongside other persons involved in the client’s care.
About You
You will be highly organised, self-motivating, and proactive in finding solutions! Ideally you will have experience in working with progressive neurological conditions and/or palliative care, or a strong interest in upskilling and developing your knowledge and skills in these areas. Experience with both minor and major home modifications is strongly desirable, as is an understanding in AAC and home automation.
You will have exceptional communication skills and be highly organised to ensure that our clients receive the right care, at the right time, and that all relevant stakeholders are working collaboratively together.
Additionally you will have:
- A recognised degree in Occupational Therapy, full AHPRA registration and at least 3 years of experience.
- A driver’s license
- NDIS Worker Screening check (or ability to obtain one)
- Australian Working rights or appropriate working visa
