Regional NSW

Living and working in healthcare jobs in Regional NSW

New South Wales is vibrant and diverse way beyond its metropolitan hubs. It abounds in sun-drenched beaches, rolling green tablelands, river valleys, the great Australian outback and even ski fields. Spread across thriving regional cities, lively country towns, picturesque coastal areas and inland expanses, Regional NSW beckons with its array of welcoming communities, rich culture, varied industries, travel escapades and an idyllic country lifestyle.

Regional NSW is the largest and most diverse regional economy in Australia. The region primarily relies on agriculture and mining, as it is rich in natural resources. It also has strong manufacturing, energy, tourism and services sectors. It is home to about 2.7 million people, representing 40% of the NSW population, and contributes around a third of the Gross State Product. With 13% of the workforce, Health Care and Social Assistance is the major employment sector. The NSW Government continually invests in a growing rural health infrastructure, workforce, research and eHealth network.

NSW’s Regional universities are vital to the education and development of the regional economies and communities. These include the University of Newcastle, University of Wollongong, University of New England, Charles Sturt University and Southern Cross University. TAFE partners with universities to give rural students greater access to vocational education and training.

Healthcare Jobs and Medical Careers in Regional NSW

There are seven Local Health Districts that cover rural and regional NSW- Far West, Hunter New England, Mid North Coast, Murrumbidgee, Northern NSW, Southern NSW and Western NSW- with a remarkable network of Public Hospitals, Community Health Centres, Nursing Homes, Oral Health Clinics and a fleet of ambulances. Despite the challenges posed by geography and isolation, low population density, long travelling times, workforce difficulties and an ageing population, reports show that the Regional Health Services perform considerably well. Health professionals in Regional NSW are supported by five Primary Health Networks (PHNs): South Eastern NSW; Western NSW; Hunter New England and Central Coast; North Coast; Murrumbidgee.

Regional NSW is well connected by a network of highways, roads and railways. Most of the bigger regional cities also have airports and are served by regional fliers. This vast region of NSW has plenty to offer- the oldest country towns, national parks, 19th-century colonial architecture, regional art galleries and great wine matched by fine food experiences.

Moving to the country is fast becoming the dream of urbanites tired of high mortgage prices, poor job prospects and a hectic big city lifestyle. A tree change in Regional NSW offers both peaceful, spacious rural townships and vibrant regional hubs teeming with great jobs, homes, culture and living.
